Now the sun has finally arrived, this is a good time to let the many people who come to Robin Hood's Bay get a local view of the many things to do on a visit.
So here is a "Top Ten Things to Do in Robin Hoods Bay" compiled by Jim Foster, the Editor of Robin Hood's Bay's own monthly newspaper The Bayfair.
1. Pick up a copy of Bayfair of course, from Station Road Post Office, Muir Lea Stores, Barnards of Fylingthorpe or one of the many other local outlets. Get up to date on local happenings, coming events, and find out what's really going on in the local community.
2. Take a stroll along the beach (once you have checked the Tide Times in Bayfair) to Boggle Hole. The Youth Hostel there serves teas, coffees, soft drinks and snacks. Look out for fossils, jet and semi-precious stones on the way.
3. Visit the Robin Hoods Bay MUSEUM on Fisherhead in the old village. Admission is Free (though a small donation is welcome) and this delightful small local museum is open from 12 to 4 daily (Sunday to Friday) throughout the summer.
4. Join the locals at one of the many local Pub Quiz Nights. The Victoria Hotel Quiz is on Monday evenings, the Laurel Inn Quiz is Wednesdays, and Ye Dolphin, The Grosvenor Hotel and the Fylingdales Inn are all on Sundays.
5. Buy some sweets or an ice cream from Dollies or Browns (or Neil's ice cream van on the beach!).
6. Have a wander around the nooks and alleyways of the Old Village of Robin Hood's Bay (or simply Bay, as it is called locally). Join a Ghost Walk, a History Walk or guide yourself at your own pace with the "Walk Round the Old Village" booklet (with a distinctive red cover) which costs just £1 from local shops.
7. Visit the Old Coastguard Station, the National Trust visitor centre which has lots of interactive things to do for children, and a super tankful of local sea creatures.
8. Go rockpooling on the scaurs (the fingers of rock that stretch out from the beach). Find crabs of all descriptions from green to hermit, sea urchins, starfish maybe, and lots of mini sea monsters.
9. Take the childrens pictures putting a coin in the Fish, Bay's unique cast iron codfish collecting box for the Lifeboats. Youngsters pictures have been taken there for over 100 years. Did the Fish really flick its tail when they put the coin in? Perhaps they will have to try again.
10. Relax over an a-la-carte meal from the Bramblewick or the Victoria Hotel, or an excellent bar meal from the Bay Hotel, Ye Dolphin, the Fylingdales Inn and the Grosvenor Hotel. And the fish and chips at Maryondale Fisheries are reckoned by many to be the best in the area.
11. If you enjoy live music, visit Ye Dolphin on a Monday Evening for their Blues and Rock Jam Session. Tuesday nights has Steve Philips and the Rough Diamonds at the Grosvenor, and if folk music and song is your bag, don't miss the renowned Bay Folk Club in Ye Dolphin on Friday evenings.
Yes, I know that makes eleven, but there are so many things to do here in Robin Hoods Bay.
